Come to the Table

unnamed-2.jpg

Every Wednesday at ONE, we offer “drop in” prayer and Communion during the noon hour.  At least we did until a certain virus came on the scene. Many of you have availed yourselves of this sacred, set-apart time to worship the Lord, receive prayer, and take communion - and we are so glad you have!  But until we are able to gather again, whether at ONE or at your church, I’d like to invite you to consider continuing all of these practices at home with your family or even by yourself.

Here’s why: you may already be spending some of your extra time at home in prayer, family devotions, and worship. Wonderful! But what about Communion at home? Why do that? Here’s why: in this time of pandemic and day to day uncertainty, Communion is a constant reminder of the reality of the finished work of the Cross. It is a powerful, prophetic act that accesses by faith all that Jesus provided through His death and resurrection: One-ness, redemption, healing, restoration, forgiveness, grace, and so much more.

The bread and the cup remind us, assure us, that we have access to the throne of grace  (Heb. 10:25) and an unbreakable covenant bond with God and with one another through His Son (Matt. 26:28; 1Cor 10:16-17). The Table of the Lord is our place of protection, security, and victory over our adversaries (Ps. 23:5).

And, finally, we do it because Jesus said, simply, “Do this.”  (Luke 22:19) This is why we offer Communion at ONE.

Communion at home is just another way to lean in to the Savior - aka Love Himself - to ask and receive what He has for you in these uncertain times.

Here is a suggested pattern to follow for home communion, but allow the Holy Spirit to guide you in how you observe and receive:

• Gather your Communion elements - bread/matzoh/wafer to represent Christ’s body, and wine/juice for Christ’s blood
• Play worship music in the background (see our playlist suggestions below*)
• Search your heart for unconfessed sin (1 Cor 11:23-30)
• Confess your sin to God and receive His forgiveness (1 John 1:9)
• If there is unresolved conflict in your life, seek reconciliation (Matt. 5:23)
• Reflect on all Jesus accomplished on the Cross (John 11:25-26; Heb. 8:6; Ps. 103:1-6; Ps. 23 and many others)
• Read Matt. 26:26-28 or 1 Cor. 11:23-30 and partake of the elements
• Continue in prayer and worship as the Holy Spirit leads, asking God for what you need and giving thanks for the body and blood of the Lord that was shed for you (1 Thess 5:16-18)

My prayer for you is that you will be nourished and healed - body, soul, and spirit - as you discover this rhythm of intimate fellowship with the One who invites you to this sacred covenant meal

The table is open and you are invited to come!
