Feast on His Faithfulness

Yahweh, You are my soul’s celebration. How could I ever forget the miracles of kindness You’ve done for me? Psalm 103:2 TPT

When I first began reading the Bible, I was surprised how often scripture mentioned the Israelites forgetting God and the miracles He’d done for them. I found it puzzling that people could so easily lose sight of blessings and provision and miracles.

I’m beginning to recognize my own tendency to forget. Why is remembering so important? When we recall the incredible things God has already done, we feast on His faithfulness and our faith is nourished by it. We remember Who He is and how He has come through for us - and we are able to believe He will continue to work wonders.

This remembering of God’s faithfulness is called our “testimony.” Isn’t it interesting that the word testimony means “to do it again”? Remembering our history with God during a challenging time is crucial. It puts faith in the driver’s seat, not fear. We remind ourselves that we have a God who loves to do abundantly more than we could ask or think (Ephesians 3:20).

Rehearsing testimony is so essential to faith that God instructed the Israelites to make it a part of each and every day. Pastor Bill Johnson writes that, “their entire social and family life was to be built on the repetition of the testimony.” In Joshua chapter 4, the Israelites erect memory stones to remind themselves of God’s intervention in their lives.

We can use a journal or an app. I encourage you to keep an ongoing list of God’s faithfulness and look at it daily, even if it's just for a few minutes! Feasting on His faithfulness in this way will remind you of what He has done and nurture the faith that He will do it again.
