Certainty

“Never brag about the plans you have for tomorrow, for you don’t have a clue what tomorrow may bring to you.” Proverbs 27:1

I’ve strived for certainty most of my life. I’ve been addicted to predicting and attempting to control outcomes. The results for me have been a constant feeling of being overwhelmed and sometimes feelings of failure and shame. Given the reality that certainty and control are generally illusions, I find myself struggling to find either in my life. I have a feeling that we may experience something similar. But, there is one thing I am certain of—Jesus.

When I am not certain about most facets of my life, I know that I can be certain that God is with me and leading me. I can be certain that He loves me more than I can truly ever know. I can be certain that God is good and wants to provide abundantly more than I have ever asked or expected. My hope and faith is in these few certainties I have in life.

I don’t know the outcomes of my life or the paths that I will walk on, but I know I am not alone in the process. I have a good God that will be the foundation of my only certainty in life. Everything in my life could shift and change for seemingly worse or better, but I will never be without the One who made me. I will never be without a listening ear and wisdom that surpasses any man’s advice. Worry and fear stop in their tracks when I let go of the certainty and control that I’ve tried to find in anything other than God.

I want to invite you into letting go of the illusion of certainty or control in life and hold onto the only certainty of Jesus. He wants to lead you and be your only foundation of certainty so that you may feel peace and let go of the worry of tomorrow.
